The fourth-biggest National Park in Tanzania is the easiest to access from Dar- Es Salaam, which is Tanzania’s largest and busiest city. It is situated in the southern part of the country not far from the shores of the Indian ocean near Morogoro. It borders with the Selous Game Reserve on the south and lies between the Uluguru & Udzungwa Mountains and the Lumango Mountain. It is one of Tanzania’s gazetted and well-protected National Parks covering a total land area of 3,230 square kilometers expanse of wilderness with a diversified Ecosystem that has been further divided into two sections. The North West, commonly known as the Mkata Plains and the southeast parts by A – 7 Tanzam High Way to Lusaka in Zambia. The Mikumi National Park is thought of to be a major hotspot Wildlife Destination and a better choice for tourists that travel to Tanzania because of its rich wide range of Wildlife, the unique surrounding Mountains and Hills that give more reflection of light to the park creating fascinating scenic and fabulous nature plus Wildlife experiences.
Best Time To Visit
There are two seasons experienced in the country. The dry season is between June to October and the wet season with rains between April to May. The Best Time to Visit Mikumi National Park for Wildlife Viewing is in the dry season of June to October which is also known as the high season. It is because in this season there are little rains thus Wildlife usually gathers around the water pools to access water thus quite easy to spot.
How to get there
Getting to the Park is quite easier compared to other National Parks due to its proximity to Dar Es Salaam. You will be able to start your overland safari to Mikumi National Park which is approximately three to four hour’s drive accessible by road.
