With breathtaking panoramic views and fewer trekkers, the Lemosho Route offers an unforgettable experience for those aiming to conquer Africa’s highest mountain.

Detailed 7 Day Lemosho Route – Kilimanjaro Trekking

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Your journey begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you will be transferred to a comfortable hotel in Moshi. After settling in, you will attend a pre-trek briefing with your guide, who will provide important information and ensure all your gear is in order. A good night’s rest prepares you for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m)

After breakfast, you will drive to Londorosi Gate for registration before proceeding to the Lemosho trailhead. The trek begins through a beautiful and dense rainforest, where you may spot blue monkeys and Colobus monkeys in the trees. The path is gradual, allowing you to ease into the hike before arriving at Mti Mkubwa Camp, where you will spend the night under the forest canopy.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail ascends into the heather and moorland zone. You will traverse the scenic Shira Plateau, a vast and breathtaking expanse with stunning views of Mount Meru in the distance. After passing Shira 1 Camp, the trek continues towards Shira 2 Camp, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, surrounded by the open landscapes of the plateau.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Barranco Camp (3,950m) via Lava Tower (4,630m)

Today is an essential acclimatization day as you ascend to Lava Tower at 4,630 meters. The landscape transforms into an alpine desert, offering dramatic views of Kibo Peak. After a short rest at Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters. This descent helps with acclimatization and allows your body to adjust to the altitude. The famous Barranco Wall, a thrilling yet manageable climb, looms ahead as you settle into camp.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3,950m) to Karanga Camp (4,035m)

The day begins with the exciting climb up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but steep ascent that rewards you with spectacular views. Once at the top, the trail gradually undulates across the alpine desert before reaching Karanga Camp. This short trekking day aids in further acclimatization, ensuring your body is well-prepared for the higher altitudes ahead.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

After breakfast, the trek continues towards Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit push. The landscape becomes more barren, with strong winds and cold temperatures marking your arrival in the Arctic zone. After an early dinner, you will rest in preparation for the final ascent to the summit, which begins just before midnight.

Day 7: Barafu Camp (4,673m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

The most challenging yet rewarding part of the trek begins in the early morning hours as you ascend in the dark towards Stella Point at 5,756 meters. The final push along the crater rim leads to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Witnessing the sunrise from the summit is a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. After celebrating your achievement, you will begin the descent to Mweka Camp, passing Barafu Camp along the way for a short rest. The long descent is tiring but rewarding as you make your way back to the lush vegetation of lower altitudes.

After a final night on the mountain, you will descend to Mweka Gate the following morning, where you will receive your summit certificate before returning to Moshi.
